At the Ball
by Donald Mackay
Brexit now it is upon us
can be likened
to a braying sound of anglo-saxophones
in England
meanwhile quietly silenced
in the middle of such jolly noisiness
Scotland stands
listening to seeming nonsense
not invited to the party really
but you can't leave yet
it's far too early
be a dear and hand around that plate
